HSHS Eastern Wisconsin Hospitals Recognized by Practice Greenhealth

May 01, 2019
Green BayPractice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care, is recognizing all four HSHS hospitals in Eastern Wisconsin for their work in achieving environmental excellence.

On Thursday, May 9, HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, and HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls will be recognized at the 2019 Environmental Excellence Awards in Nashville, Tenn. with the following:

Partner for Change Award
HSHS St. Vincent, St. Mary’s, St. Nicholas and St. Clare will each receive the Partner for Change award. It recognizes health care facilities that continuously improve and expand upon programs to eliminate mercury, reduce and recycle waste, source products sustainably and more. Winning facilities must demonstrate that they are recycling at least 15 percent of their total waste, have reduced regulated medical waste, are on track to eliminate mercury, and have developed successful sustainability programs in many areas.

Greening of the OR Award
In addition to the Partner for Change award, HSHS St. Vincent and St. Nicholas will also receive the Greening of the OR award. It recognizes facilities demonstrating the most success in reducing the environmental impact of its surgical suites. Operating rooms are large contributors to a health care facility’s environmental footprint, creating opportunity for significant cost savings and sustainability improvements.

“As part of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, our HSHS hospitals share a common goal of identifying and implementing sustainability programs that support the Sisters’ mission of showing reverence for the earth,” said Dan Rocheleau, Campus and Sustainability Facilitator for HSHS hospitals in Eastern Wisconsin. “We not only provide exceptional care for our patients, but for our environment as well.”

The Environmental Excellence Awards are presented each year by Practice Greenhealth to honor environmental achievements in the health care sector across the country.
