Potyen Tapped as Keynote for ATHENA Awards

Award-winning business owner will share insight with female leaders.

SHEBOYGAN, WI — October 22, 2025 — The GameBoard, the innovative game store in Sheboygan, WI, that’s changing the way you think about playing games, is proud to announce that Lynn Potyen, owner and award-winning entrepreneur, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 2025 ATHENA Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at The Berkshire, 821 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan.

Hosted by the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce, the ATHENA Awards Dinner is a signature annual event honoring individuals and organizations who embody leadership, service, and the empowerment of women. This year’s celebration will spotlight nominees across three categories: ATHENA Young Professional Leadership, ATHENA Organizational Leadership, and ATHENA Leadership Awards. The awards all recognize the winners’ exceptional contributions to the community.

Potyen, a 2025 Women of Influence Business Owner Award recipient from Insight on Business magazine, has long been an advocate for education, creativity, and connection through the power of play. Her keynote will center on how empathy, imagination, and authenticity in leadership can strengthen communities and inspire future generations, and why women are the leaders who can deliver it.

“The ATHENA Awards remind us that leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about lifting others and creating spaces where everyone can shine,” said Potyen. “I’m deeply honored to share this evening with so many incredible leaders who embody strength, wisdom, and heart.”

The evening will begin with registration and cocktails at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. Potyen’s keynote address is at 6:45 p.m. The awards presentation will take place at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are still available through the Sheboygan County Chamber, with advance registration required by November 3, 2025.

"When my team suggested Lynn for this important role, I knew she would be perfect as our keynote speaker," said Deidre Martinez, CEO of the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce. "After nearly 20 years in business, she knows what it takes for a woman to succeed. I'm looking forward to hearing what she will share with the next generation of women leaders in our community."

About The GameBoard

The GameBoard was founded in 2006 by Lynn Potyen, an award-winning proprietor, after her son was diagnosed with a severe speech delay. Through his journey, she was able to connect his therapy to the games they played at home. Since then, studies have shown that playing games together enhances creativity, fosters communication and socialization, and builds emotional skills and cognitive learning ability. Potyen is an outspoken advocate for using board games in education, therapy, and corporate team building. Her story is archived in the Library of Congress and in the 2023 book “What Board Games Mean to Me,” where she is part of an anthology featuring 28 voices from around the world.
