STC Offers Summer Theatre Training Workshops Whether you want to sing on stage or succeed in business, check this out. SHEBOYGAN, WI--June 18, 2025--The Sheboygan Theatre Company, the local community theater preparing to launch its 92nd Season, is thrilled to announce Embodying Creativity: A Theatre Workshop Series. Supported by the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Creative Communities Grant, this dynamic three-day event is designed to give anyone, not just actors, theater enthusiasts, and the business community hands-on training in core performance skills. This new summer initiative kicks off July 22–24, 2025, and is open to participants ages 16 and up. All workshops will take place at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre on the Horace Mann Middle School campus, 2820 Union Ave, Sheboygan, WI 53081. “Offering these workshops, as a way for anyone in our community to build new skills, connect with professionals, and grow creatively, is an exciting effort that is one to celebrate,” said Tricia Roberts, Executive Director of STC. “The arts play a vital role in strengthening our community, not just culturally, but personally. These opportunities build confidence in both youth and adults and demonstrate the real impact theater can have.” Roberts emphasized the importance of making the arts accessible to everyone in the community. “The answer isn’t to scale back—it’s to show up even more,” she said. “We need more arts in our community because they bring out the best in us. Theater helps build stronger, more confident individuals—young and old—and creates connections that make our community more vibrant, creative, and resilient.” Each day of the series features a specialized workshop taught by a distinguished theater educator: July 22: Introduction to Unarmed Stage Combat Led by Michael Daehn, a stage combat expert and professor emeritus from Ball State University, this physical, on-your-feet session will explore how actors create realistic onstage violence safely. Participants will learn how to perform slaps, punches, chokes, and kicks, building trust and precision in partner work. Daehn will be assisted by area actor Brandon Otten, a UW–Green Bay theatre alumnus. July 23: The Room Where It Happens: Auditions Workshop Professional performer and educator Abi Charbonneau will guide attendees through the ins and outs of successful auditions. Topics include building a standout audition book, mastering the slate and monologue, formatting a headshot and resume, and understanding the business side of theater. This empowering workshop helps actors show up with confidence and leave a strong impression. July 24: You’ve Got the Part—Now What? Acting Workshop Taught by veteran director and teaching artist Sheila Ryan, this high-energy session focuses on actor tools such as improv, active listening, and staying present on stage. Participants will explore strategies to handle real-world rehearsal challenges, including character conflicts or unexpected direction, and leave with new tricks to keep performances fresh and authentic. Actors can register for individual workshops or save with a Workshop Combo, which includes all three sessions at a $10 discount. Simply select the July 22 workshop date to access the combo deal. Space is limited. To sign up, visit https://www.stcshows.org or call the Sheboygan Community Recreation Department at (920) 459-3773.
